Help & support
A little clarity. Then back to practice.
Find the essentials, understand what’s optional, and get more from the record you’re keeping.
The guidance below describes PracticeLane’s app features. The Android app is not yet publicly available. Account, cloud and deletion processing are not active for this public website launch. You can contact support with questions.
Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. Add a learner’s name to start a practice log on your device. You do not need an email address, birth date, permit number, state selection, or coaching setup. Google sign-in is optional.
Can I just use PracticeLane as a basic logger?
Yes. Choose a learner, start the drive, then finish and save. Leave focus skills, observations, and reflections empty if you do not need them. Nothing requires you to work through the coaching features.
See the essential stepsDoes PracticeLane work offline?
You can log drives, add them by hand, and review saved history without an account or mobile data. Recording a route needs location permission and a usable GPS signal—the signal your phone uses to find its position. Loading street maps, signing in, and sharing drives between devices need internet access.
Where can I download it?
The public Google Play listing is not available here yet. The app availability page will carry the verified listing when public release is ready.
Check Android app availabilityRecording a drive
Can I log a drive manually?
Yes. Choose Add manual drive for practice you completed without recording it in the app. Enter how long it lasted and when it ended. Night minutes, distance, supervisor, skills, conditions, and notes are optional. A drive added by hand has no recorded route or speed graph.
Does the app need to stay on screen?
No. A drive you start can keep recording with the app in the background or the screen off. Android shows a notification while recording, depending on your notification settings. Leave screen interaction to a supervising passenger, or wait until safely parked.
What do Pause and Resume do?
Pause stops recording your location and doesn’t count the break as practice time. Resume continues the same drive. End the drive when you are done, review the essentials, and save it to history.
What happens if GPS drops out?
The report shows recorded positions, estimates where possible, and gaps where information is missing. It may leave out unreliable positions. Distance and speed are approximate, and a gap does not show where you drove. Read the messages about recording quality alongside the route.
What if a recording is interrupted?
The app keeps what it recorded for you to review. It labels interrupted drives separately and leaves them out of completed practice totals. Check the drive’s status in History before counting its time.
Focus skills & learners
How does Random 3 skills work?
Before a drive, Random 3 skills picks three different skills to replace any you already chose. Change them, try again, or remove them all. It’s a starting point, not an assignment. Trying again may pick some or all of the same skills.
Use focus skills at your own paceWhat are Good, Review, and Intervention?
A supervising passenger can use these to mark useful moments. Good marks something that went well; Review marks something to discuss later. Press and hold Intervention to note when the supervisor stepped in. The app does not judge these moments or give an automatic driving score.
Where do focus suggestions come from?
Suggestions use past drives, including skills you marked as practiced and recent moments marked Review. A Practice next note can help you remember what to work on. Suggestions are optional ideas, not ratings, required tasks, or proof that a skill is mastered.
Can I keep records for more than one learner?
Yes. Choose the active learner before starting or adding a drive. Each learner has a separate practice view. Archiving takes a learner out of the active list but keeps their history. You can bring them back later; their records aren’t deleted.
Review, edit & keep records
What if I lose or replace my phone?
Save a current backup file somewhere separate from your phone. Drives saved only on the phone aren’t automatically backed up online. If you turned on sync, supported records already shared through your account can appear on a compatible device. Sync does not copy every setting or replace a full backup. A PDF report cannot restore app records.
Save a backup you can restoreCan I edit a completed drive?
Open its report from History and choose Edit notes & skills. You can review notes, practiced skills, conditions, and night time. Some recorded drives also let you adjust when the drive ended. Notes on marked moments and their categories can be changed where the app allows it. The original recorded information stays saved separately; editing does not redraw the route.
Make sense of a driveWhy is some practice excluded from the night total?
Some older records, records brought into the app, or edited drives don’t clearly say how much time was at night. Their completed time still counts toward total practice. The app shows the time it can’t classify and leaves it out of the night total. Its night estimates may also differ from your state’s definition of night.
Can I save a copy of my records?
Yes. Save a PDF report to read or share your practice log. To save a file that can restore your records, choose Back up selected history in Settings. This backup uses JSON, a file format the app can read. Check what a report includes before sharing it, and whether your licensing agency accepts it.
Compare reports, backups, and syncHow do I restore a backup?
In Settings, choose Restore selected history. The app checks the file before asking to replace the selected records on your device. Review the learner and drive counts, and back up your current records first if you want to keep them. Other histories, records stored online, and files you saved elsewhere are separate.
Why can’t I back up or erase data during a drive?
Finish the active drive first. The app blocks these changes while a drive is active to protect the recording. Once you have finished, return to Settings and try the action again.
Account & optional sync
Does signing in automatically upload my history?
No. Signing in and turning on sync are separate choices. Sync shares saved drives through your account. Choose the account history you want and turn sharing on for it in Settings. Sharing later edits is another choice. Read what each option shares before turning it on.
Can I use the same history on multiple devices?
Yes, on compatible devices signed into the same PracticeLane account through Google, with sync turned on for the records you want to share. Records in different accounts and records saved only on a device stay separate. This does not create a shared household dashboard or give access to someone else’s account.
Why has a change not appeared on another device?
Check that both devices have internet access and are using the same account and history. Check sync status in Settings. Android may delay updates while the app is in the background. Sharing later edits must be turned on separately, and both app versions must support it. If two edits disagree, Corrections and review may ask you which to keep.
Does my permit start date appear on another device?
No. It stays on your device and in a full backup file. Ordinary drive sync does not copy it to another device, so enter it there if needed. Your selected state can be shared when the app supports sharing learner details.
Does turning sync off delete records stored online?
No. Records already shared through your account stay online, and a request already sent may finish. Use the app’s synced-drive deletion or account-removal option to remove the online records it covers. Erasing records on this device only removes the selected device copy.
Privacy, deletion & state resources
Where is my information stored?
Your selected driving records are saved on your device. Optional account features can also store supported shared records online. Reports and backups go where you choose to save them. Where enabled, street maps contact Google even when drive sync is off.
See where your information goesHow do I remove my account or data?
You can remove records from this device, delete a drive shared through your account, or remove the account. Each removes different information. To remove the account, use Remove PracticeLane account / status in Settings. This does not delete your Google account. The account deletion page explains the separate email-verification process for requests without the app.
Choose the right deletion optionDoes PracticeLane decide whether I meet my state’s rules?
No. The app’s state comparisons can help you plan, but your state decides which hours count, who can supervise, and whether you qualify for a license. Use the official links on this website to check current rules, accepted forms, and exceptions.

Make an issue easier to understand.
When contacting support, include the app version, Android version, what you were trying to do, what happened instead, and roughly when it happened.
Don’t send passwords, Google sign-in or recovery codes, or your full driving history. Only share a diagnostic export—a file used for troubleshooting—if support asks for it. Review it first; it can contain identifiers and technical details.
